Monopoly

This is the face of a first-time Monopoly winner...

On Monday for FHE we put Dallin to bed (since he destroys all games) and played Monopoly with the boys. It was Grant's first time- and he wiped us all out. He's four years old and money hungry folks! Grant measured his success by the number of $500 bills he had. At first he wouldn't spend any, but eventually he learned that buying property (and later houses and hotels) brings in many $500s! He cleaned us right out and was so funny about it. He kept saying, "Iiiiiiii'm RICH!" But he was also compassionate, forgiving Spencer of a $4 debt so he could stay in the game. Spence was out the next round anyway. Poor guy, he had lots of bad luck but he was very patient and watched the rest of the game.

We stayed up past 11pm to finish the game, against my better judgment. Cal and I had to see Grant clean everybody out and win the game! By the end Grant was too tired to count his money anymore so Cal (who had been cleaned out earlier) became his personal assistant. Spencer wanted a rematch the next morning, but either Grant wanted to keep his title as Monopoly ruler, or he wasn't feeling up to another 3 hour game. :)

Another funny note- Grant liked having at least one of each bill at all times, so he'd go to great lengths to pay rent to us (or buy houses) in a way that would keep his 'one of each bill' stash safe. Sometimes you'd get paid with all ones, or he'd tell you to keep the change so he wouldn't have to break his only $50. Funny kid!

Also, the first time Spencer traded in 5 $100s for a $500 bill, Grant's eyes lit up and he handed Cal a pile of $1s and said, "Here Dad. Can I trade these for a $500?" We were all busting up and he figured out Spence wasn't cashing in, just consolidating bills. Ha!
